Personal background, interests, and what drives me

Introduction

Who I Am

My first experience leading to my current interests in engineering, electronics and robotics was in a robotics lesson at age 12. Handling arduinos, breadboards, wiring and coding provided a foundation for further projects which I have undertaken outside of education.

Motivation comes from achieving my eventual goal of working and living in a more technologically advanced society where product value is so high that humans do not need to be the product.

Passions

What I Love

Engineering & Building

Personal electric vehicle construction, personal item repair, hands-on fabrication - most efficient and most fun describe personal electric vehicles and personally repairing items. They can be built more cheaply and reduces extreme consumerism, common today. It is an optimisation on funds and material consumption.

Infrastructure & Systems

Personal server management, single board computers - small, private installations allow for extremely fast LAN access and full use of the internet's capabilities beyond global conglomerate sourced information (.e.g. torrenting, P2P)

Movement & Martial Arts

Latin and Ballroom dancing, Taekwondo black belt (Junior), gym - the body is a tool to carry oneself through life and must be optimised. Breathing healthier, lifting heavier and most importantly, maintaining mental health are all core facets which must be upheld.

Music

9 years guitar experience - classical, rock, pop, owning the 3 main types of guitars (acoustic, electric, bass)

Philosophy

My Philosophy of Optimisation

Optimisation as Discipline

I treat optimisation as a practical discipline: reduce waste, improve reliability, and increase useful output per unit of time, money, and material. I prioritise maintainability and efficiency in daily use, whether that means improving code, repairing my own items for cheaper or making a (non-internet accessible) home lighting system.

Optimisation as a fundamental has allowed success in personal projects and academic work which allow for less refactoring and higher performance in the end.

Future

Goals & Aspirations

Where I Am Heading

My final objective is to see people interact with technology in a more advanced manner whether it is from something basic such as more advanced handheld devices or interplanetary travel. I strongly enjoy sci-fi franchises such as Star wars, Star trek and Warhammer 40k.
